detaching and changing path of TIFFs

In the IMAGE manager how come I cannot detach TIFF images that are
referenced to inaccessible locations? I also cannot detach any Tiffs.
The Detach button is grayed out.

Also I would like to change the path from absolute to relative path,
but I cannot do this either, as the save path button is grayed out too!

Have sorted it out. The problem was that it was a nested reference. I
had an xref that referenced these images.

I got around having to re-attach the images by going File>E-Transmit
which is akin to Pack and Go command in AutoCad 2000.
